ATUAÇÃO DA FISIOTERAPIA RESPIRATÓRIA EM ADULTOS NA SÍNDROME PÓS-COVID: uma revisão da literatura
Keywords:
Covid, Respiratory Physiotherapy, Post-COVID SyndrAbstract
The present study corresponds to the research of articles regarding the effectiveness of
respiratory physiotherapy in adults with post-COVID-19 syndrome. Aiming to investigate the
most effective physiotherapeutic techniques for reducing dyspnea and increasing inspiratory
muscle strength, the work is justified by the need for rehabilitation strategies to address
persistent respiratory sequelae in post-COVID patients. This is an Integrative Literature
Review. Articles published in Portuguese and English, available in scientific databases such as
SCIELO and the Virtual Health Library (BVS), from 2020 to 2023, were selected. The
descriptors used were: “Respiratory Physiotherapy,” “Post-COVID-19 Syndrome,” and
“Pulmonary Rehabilitation.” After individual reading of the texts, the studies were grouped into
common themes for discussion. The results indicated the predominance of interventions based
on techniques such as inspiratory muscle training, progressive aerobic exercises, stretching,
bronchial hygiene maneuvers, and strength training. These approaches demonstrated
significant improvement in cardiorespiratory capacity, reduction in dyspnea, and increased
quality of life for the patients. The data reinforce the importance of respiratory physiotherapy
in treating symptoms associated with post-COVID syndrome, promoting effective functional
recovery. It is concluded that respiratory physiotherapy is essential for the rehabilitation of
post-COVID-19 patients, especially in recovering respiratory and physical functionality, as
well as improving overall well-being. The study highlighted the relevance of personalized
protocols to meet the specific demands of each patient and recommended the development of
further research with methodological rigor to optimize existing interventions. Thus, the role of
the physiotherapist in recovery and health promotion in the face of the pandemic's
consequences is reaffirmed.
