Abstract

This article conducted a search in the national and international literature on the risk factors
that contribute to mental illness among nursing professionals. Searches were carried out in the
electronic databases from March to May 2024, using the descriptors: nurse, “depressive
disorder”, ‘illness or death from overwork’ and ‘stress’ and 10 articles were analyzed for this
research. The reported risk factors that most contribute to mental illness among nursing
professionals were work overload, mobile emergency care services and primary health care for
the elderly in long-term care facilities. Lack of systematic support for patients with dementia is
also considered a factor associated with mental illnesses that can affect nursing professionals
