This study presents the results of the germination test performed at the Seed
Analysis Laboratory (LAS) of the Seed Processing Unit (UBS) of Cotripal Agricultural Cooperative, in Condor, RS. The analysis focused on determining the maximum
germination potential of different seed lots, which is essential to predict the
effectiveness of field sowing. The state of Rio Grande do Sul stands out as one of the
main seed producers in Brazil, with more than 7 thousand registered soybean fields,
covering approximately 460 thousand hectares. UBS is responsible for the production
and quality control of seeds of important crops, such as soybeans, wheat, barley, black
oats and white oats. The germination test, conducted according to the Rules for Seed
Analysis (RAS), evaluated the emergence and development of the essential structures
of the embryo, using Paper Roll substrate and Vermiculite. The results highlight the
importance of strict quality control to ensure that the seeds meet the standards
required by the market and legislation. The experience in the laboratory reinforced the
relevance of the protocols adopted, which include the careful evaluation of seedlings
and the repetition of tests with treated seeds in cases of initial failure. Such practices
ensure the reliability of the analyses and the viability of the seeds, contributing to a
more efficient and sustainable agriculture.
